Writing Women's Fiction

This 5-week workshop, beginning May 24-June 25, 2010, will key on the elements of writing that pertain particularly to Contemporary Women’s Fiction, with an emphasis on characterization, evoking emotion, using setting as another “character,” and using social issues in the story plot.
Elements to be discussed that pertain to all genres include:
• Layering in the six senses • Weaving in subplots
• Using point-of-view to strengthen story • Deepening characterization • Marking time in the story, and graphing a timeline • Writing realistic dialogue
• Finding your voice
• Easy, basic rules of good writing
• When to break the rules
